# The Machine Makes Time. Who Owns the Clock?

> On a Cook Inlet salmon boat this month, a sockeye enters a steel box on deck and leaves it iced.

## The story

Not a better fish. More hours.

Scan. Spike. Cut. Ice. Six and a half seconds.

Computer vision picks the fish and the path. A spike to the hindbrain, a cut at the gills, then into slush ice.

Seven hours becomes sixty. That gap is the product.

A suffocated salmon stiffens in about seven hours. Shinkei says its process pushes that to sixty. Same fish. The only thing added is time, and it is added on an Alaska deck.

Every one of those numbers is the company's own.

None of it has been tested by anyone outside Shinkei. That does not make it false. It makes it unaudited, which is a different thing.

More than 1,300 permits. A handful of boats.

What is not public is how many of these boats are running the robot this season.

The machine is free. The split is not disclosed.

Nobody here is being fleeced. What is not on the record anywhere is the share, and a share you cannot see is hard to bargain over.

The fish stays Alaskan. The asset does not.

Khawaja says the company handles and markets the fish under its own brand. The hours are made on an Alaska deck.

None of it is on a shelf yet.

IntraFish says the retail rollout is expected this summer. On the day this deck was built, the brand's own species list ran to six fish and none of them was salmon.

When the value moves from the fish to the clock, who should own the clock?
