## The story

Of 150 cited, 119 used AI.

The rule says "devices."

1.1 percent.

119 of the more than 10,500 students at UAA last semester. Small as a share, AI cases are now the majority of the conduct office's caseload, the report says.

That clause of UAA's student conduct code is how AI cases are handled. It never names AI. Each instructor decides what is authorized, course by course.

Every syllabus must address AI. No two have to agree.

Professors may allow as much or as little AI as they like, a structure UAA's Faculty Senate asked for. UAA discourages AI checkers. Many faculty use them anyway, writing professor Andrew Harnish said.

Two reports. Two different counts.

The draft says a human decides.

Under today's clause, that human is each instructor.

Should the regents write what a student may do with AI, or leave it to each syllabus?

Student government member Brigitta Taaga pushed back that the draft didn't go far enough.
