# Named in Writing, Answered in Writing

> "We're going to file to intervene and oppose it, just so we have a position," AEA's chief said of the proposed Cook Inlet AI data center.

## The story

Cook Inlet's AI data center named AEA. AEA says they never spoke.

Two names in the filing. Two letters back.

Priority to study, not permission to build.

A 48-month permit to study 100 MW from 330 to 350 tidal turbines feeding 66 hives of AI compute, on about 1,400 to 1,650 acres. A preliminary permit gives priority to file for a license. It authorizes no construction.

AEA's chief said oppose. Its filing takes no position.

"We're going to file to intervene and oppose it, just so we have a position." Curtis W. Thayer, AEA, to the Peninsula Clarion, September 14th "AEA does not presently take a position supporting or opposing issuance of the requested preliminary permit." It reserves the right to change that position.

The footprint "will be substantially smaller."

The answer gives no new size. These are the four corners in Exhibit 3, about 1,400 to 1,650 acres off the East Foreland, with a 3.5-mile cable to Nikiski.

Two more names. Nothing filed.

The application says it coordinates with CIRI and the Kenaitze Indian Tribe. Through October 22nd, neither has filed.

134 filings. 117 from the public.

Six asked to become parties.

GCI called FERC staff on August 28th. It has not filed.

Should a filing name a partner without the partner's signature?

Comments, motions and competing applications close 5 p.m. Eastern, November 2nd.
